Sustainability Impact
The Environmental Impact of Your Participation
Every pallet you sell through our buyback program is a pallet diverted from the landfill. Here is what that means in real environmental terms.
30 lbs
Wood Saved per Pallet
Average weight of a 48x40 pallet that stays in circulation
3.5 lbs
CO2 Avoided per Pallet
Compared to manufacturing a replacement from new lumber
0.015
Trees Preserved per Pallet
Approximately 65 recycled pallets save one mature tree
100%
Material Recovery
Even unrepairable pallets become mulch or biomass energy
For businesses with ESG reporting requirements, we provide annual sustainability certificates documenting the total number of pallets diverted, estimated CO2 avoided, and wood tonnage recovered through your participation in our buyback program. These figures are based on EPA-recognized calculation methodologies and are suitable for inclusion in corporate sustainability reports.
What Our Buyback Partners Say
Trusted by Businesses Across the West Coast
“We were paying a waste hauler $800 a month to remove pallets from our warehouse. Now Pallets West Coast picks them up for free and pays us $1,200 a month. We turned a $800 expense into $1,200 in revenue. The math was a no-brainer.”
Warehouse Manager
Regional Distribution Center, Portland OR
“The grading process is completely transparent. Their buyer walks our dock, explains exactly what grade each stack falls into, and the written quote matches what we get paid. No surprises, no haggling. We have been in the program for three years now.”

Common Questions
Buyback Program FAQ
How quickly can you pick up my pallets?
For locations within 100 miles of Eugene, we can typically schedule a pickup within 3 to 5 business days of your initial contact. For urgent situations where pallets are blocking dock operations, we offer expedited same-day or next-day pickups when truck availability allows. Recurring participants have standing pickup schedules that require no additional scheduling effort.
Do I need to sort my pallets before pickup?
No sorting is required. Our driver and on-site buyer will sort and grade pallets during the pickup process. However, if your pallets are already separated by size and stacked neatly, the pickup will be faster and we can often offer a small premium for the reduced handling time.
What if I have fewer than 50 pallets?
While our minimum for free on-site pickup is 50 pallets, you are welcome to deliver smaller quantities directly to our facility at 1875 W 6th Ave, Eugene, OR 97402 during business hours (Monday through Friday, 7 AM to 5 PM; Saturday, 8 AM to 12 PM). We will grade and pay for them on the spot.
How are pallets graded during the buyback assessment?
We use a standardized three-tier grading system. Grade A pallets are structurally sound with no broken boards, no major staining, and minimal cosmetic wear. Grade B pallets have minor damage such as one or two cracked boards but are repairable. Grade C pallets require multiple repairs but remain structurally viable. Our grading criteria are published on our grading guide page and our buyer will explain each grade on-site.
Can I combine the buyback program with pallet purchases?
Absolutely. Many of our clients participate in both programs. We pick up your surplus pallets on the same truck that delivers your fresh pallet order, which maximizes logistics efficiency and minimizes dock disruptions. Buyback revenue can be applied as credit toward your purchases for an even simpler accounting process.
Do you provide documentation for accounting and tax purposes?
Yes. Every pickup generates a detailed receipt listing pallet counts by size and grade, the per-pallet price, and the total payment amount. Monthly statements summarize all transactions for the period. Annual summary reports are available for your accounting team and are suitable for tax documentation purposes.
What happens to the pallets after you buy them?
Grade A pallets are cleaned, inspected, and resold directly into the supply chain. Grade B and C pallets are repaired in our facility, with damaged boards and fasteners replaced to restore them to working condition. Pallets that cannot be economically repaired are dismantled, with usable boards salvaged for repair stock and remaining wood converted to mulch or biomass fuel. Our material recovery rate exceeds 98 percent.
Is there a contract or commitment required?
No contracts are required. You can sell pallets to us on a one-time basis or participate in a recurring program with no long-term commitment. We earn your continued business through fair pricing, reliable service, and prompt payment. That said, recurring participants do benefit from priority scheduling and may qualify for premium pricing tiers.
Grading Expertise
Detailed Pallet Condition Assessment Guide
Understanding how we grade pallets helps you estimate the value of your inventory before we arrive. Our grading system follows NWPCA (National Wooden Pallet and Container Association) standards and evaluates six key criteria for every pallet. Use this guide to pre-assess your pallets and maximize your buyback revenue.
| Assessment Criteria | Grade A Premium | Grade B Standard | Grade C Economy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Deck Boards | All intact, no cracks, no missing boards | 1-2 cracked boards, no missing | 2-4 damaged boards, 1 may be missing |
| Stringers / Blocks | No cracks, splits, or notch damage | Minor surface cracks, no structural failure | Moderate cracking, still load-bearing |
| Fasteners (Nails) | All flush, no protrusions or backing out | Minor protrusions, easily corrected | Several loose fasteners, replacement needed |
| Staining / Contamination | Clean surface, no visible staining | Light surface marks, no chemical stains | Moderate staining, no chemical contamination |
| Dimensional Accuracy | Within 1/4 inch of standard dimensions | Within 1/2 inch of standard dimensions | Within 1 inch, slight warping acceptable |
| Overall Structural Integrity | No repairs needed, ready for immediate reuse | Minor repairs (1-2 boards), 15 min repair time | Multiple repairs needed, 30+ min repair time |
Step 1: Visual Inspection
Walk your pallet stacks and look for obvious damage: broken boards, missing pieces, protruding nails, and heavy staining. Separate clearly damaged pallets from clean ones. This pre-sorting can save 20 to 30 minutes during the on-site assessment and may qualify you for a handling efficiency premium.
Step 2: Structural Test
Apply moderate downward pressure to the center of the pallet deck. A Grade A pallet should show no flex or give. Grade B may show slight flex but remains solid. Grade C will flex noticeably but should not collapse. If a pallet collapses under moderate pressure, it is likely scrap material rather than buyback-eligible.
Step 3: Measure and Count
Count your pallets by size group (48x40, 48x48, etc.) and note approximate condition percentages. For example: 200 pallets total, approximately 40% Grade A, 35% Grade B, 25% Grade C. This information helps us prepare an accurate preliminary quote before our buyer visits your facility.

Maximize Your Program
Buyback Logistics Optimization Tips
Getting the most value from the buyback program is not just about pallet condition. How you stage, store, and prepare your surplus pallets directly affects your revenue and pickup efficiency. Follow these expert tips to maximize your buyback earnings.
Stage Near the Dock
Stack buyback pallets within forklift reach of your loading dock. Pallets staged in back corners, upper levels, or behind active inventory slow the pickup process and may result in partial loads. Dock-accessible staging reduces pickup time by 40 to 60 percent, which means our crew can handle more pallets per visit.
Stack by Size
Separate pallets into stacks by size before pickup day. Mixing 48x40 pallets with 48x48 or odd-size pallets in the same stack requires our crew to sort on-site, adding 15 to 30 minutes per visit. Pre-sorted stacks also help us provide more accurate counts and faster grading, which accelerates your payment.
Protect from Weather
Pallets stored outdoors degrade faster than those kept under cover. Rain, snow, and direct sunlight cause warping, mold, and staining that can downgrade pallets from Grade A to Grade B or worse. If covered storage is not available, rotate outdoor stock frequently and prioritize older pallets for buyback first.
Remove Non-Pallet Debris
Clear stretch wrap, cardboard, slip sheets, strapping, and trash from pallet stacks before pickup. Contaminated loads require our crew to clean as they sort, slowing the process significantly. Clean stacks earn a faster turnaround and may qualify for a small handling premium on large-volume pickups.
Set a Consistent Schedule
Recurring weekly or biweekly pickups are more efficient than sporadic calls when your dock overflows. A consistent schedule allows us to optimize truck routing, reduces the number of pallets lost to weather damage while waiting, and provides you with predictable cash flow from buyback revenue each month.
Track Your Pallet Accumulation
Knowing your average weekly pallet accumulation rate helps us right-size your pickup frequency. If you accumulate 100 pallets per week, a biweekly pickup of 200 pallets is more efficient than four weekly pickups of 50. Share your receiving and shipping data with your account manager so we can optimize your program.
